Advisory Committee OKs FY27 school budget plan with 8.82 percent increase

Cohasset Advisory Committee endorsed the proposed FY27 school budget in joint session with Select Board and School Committee. Superintendent Sarah Shannon presented an 8.82 percent increase (approximately $2.1 million) that reflects level service costs but faces a $1.32 million gap because town funding rises only 3.5 percent. The schools plan to reduce 10 to 15 full-time equivalent positions across all schools, district, and central office while cutting instructional technology, facilities, supplies, and athletics.
Salaries, special education tuition, and utilities consume 88 percent of the budget, and administrators are exploring a Proposition 2½ override to stabilize multi-year funding and support future building improvements now that the district has been accepted into the MSBA Core process.
