Cohasset approves $26.7 million budget, water improvements, zoning amendments

Cohasset approves $26.7M fiscal 2003 operating budget and major infrastructure investments. The March 30-April 1 annual town meeting authorized $2,396,155 for water system improvements including Lily Pond Water Treatment Plant upgrades and distributed community preservation funding including $600,000 for Beach Street property acquisition on a 315-119 vote. Voters approved zoning amendments permitting accessory dwelling units in single-family homes but defeated a proposal restricting ledge removal 191-146.

The town allocated $200,000 for Little League fields at the Gravel Pits and approved $30,000 in legal costs for coalition litigation against Massport. Two citizen petitions for special election procedures and binding initiative authority were defeated.
