Historical Commission nominates Hoadley as acting chair, endorses Irish famine memorial site review.
Historical Commission · Meeting of May 20, 2026
COHASSET — Historical Commission unanimously names Susan Hoadley acting chair for 2026. Chair Martin St. John, relocating from the area, will step down after the May meeting, which precedes the Commission's summer recess.
The Commission advanced a proposal from the South Shore Irish Heritage Trail to place a monument in Cohasset commemorating the 1849 wreck of the Brig St. John, which killed approximately 100 people. Two sites — the north side of Cohasset Common at Beach Street and a location near the Central Cemetery gate — will be reviewed by St.
John and Julia Gleason with relevant oversight bodies before Hoadley presents the project to the Select Board.
