Public safety building options narrowed by structural and cost constraints

Cohasset Capital Budget Committee deferred facilities review while addressing public safety constraints. Glen Pratt, Director of Cohasset Emergency Management Agency, reported that expanding the Elm Street police station is structurally unfeasible and the remaining $6 million from a $10 million appropriation is insufficient to meet police compliance standards. Sharing detention facilities with other towns is not possible due to county jurisdiction issues and cost factors.
The Fire Department is planning to replace Engine 3 (2001) while moving Engine 2 (2010) to reserve status. The committee approved the January 12 minutes 6-0 and scheduled its next meeting for February 9.
