COHASSET — Public Safety Facilities Committee backs $26M police and fire station proposal for town warrant. Chair Glenn Pratt presented the committee's unanimous recommendation to construct a 23,426-square-foot facility at 135 King Street, housing a full police station and structural shell of a fire substation, with an average annual taxpayer cost of approximately $520. Interim Town Manager Michelle Leary confirmed approximately $6 million from the original appropriation remains to offset the $26 million total cost.
Police and fire union officials emphasized recruitment challenges and current facility deficiencies, while the committee requests Select Board approval to include the article in the Town Meeting warrant.
