School Committee appoints new finance director and receives retirement announcement
School Committee · Meeting of January 21, 2026
COHASSET — School Committee unanimously appoints Keree Simmons as director of finance and operations effective July 1. Superintendent Dr. Sarah Shannon presented the FY27 Preliminary Budget as a level-service proposal designed to preserve current programming while correcting historically under-budgeted categories such as athletics and utilities; contractual salary increases, special education obligations, and insurance represent primary cost drivers.
Dr. Shannon noted that approximately $200,000 to $250,000 in projected salary savings from retirements and staff departures are expected to offset athletics and utilities pressures. Assistant Superintendent Dr.
Leslie Scollins announced her retirement effective September 26, 2026, concluding a 30-year education career and seven years in Cohasset Public Schools; the district will conduct a broad stakeholder search to fill the position.
