School Committee approves $26M FY27 budget despite structural funding shortfall.

School Committee · Meeting of March 31, 2026

COHASSET — School Committee unanimously approves $26M FY27 budget. The Cohasset School Committee voted 5-0 to adopt a $26,031,005 budget for fiscal year 2027, a 4.83 percent increase over FY26 that nonetheless leaves the district approximately $990,000 below full level-service funding. Superintendent Dr.

Sarah Shannon reported the district bridged more than $1 million in shortfall through strategic retirements, staffing realignment, and operational efficiencies, but continued reductions in staffing, resources, and programming remain necessary. Committee members, including Lance C. Dial and Corey D.

Evans, rejected delaying the vote and stressed that immediate work must now begin on long-term override planning to secure sustainable funding.
