School Committee hears FY27 budget gap of $1.3 million.

School Committee · Meeting of February 10, 2026

COHASSET — School Committee reviews FY27 budget with $1.3 million gap despite revised request. Superintendent Dr. Sarah Shannon presented the updated proposal to the joint meeting of the Select Board and Advisory Committee, noting that the district reduced its initial level-service request from 11.88 percent to 8.82 percent through refined budgeting practices, with the new request representing a 3.5 percent increase or approximately $869,000 over FY26.

To close the gap, the district is projecting reductions in the range of 10 to 15 FTE, which may include partial reductions. Dr. Shannon emphasized that reductions in professional development and instructional materials will slow progress on strategic plan initiatives, while several committee members emphasized the need for coordinated discussions regarding a potential Proposition 2½ override strategy for sustainable funding beyond FY27.
