Town approves $35.3 million fiscal 2008 budget and restructures water rates

Cohasset appropriates $35.3 million for fiscal 2008 with water rate restructuring. In an 83-to-57 hand count, the town approved a new metered water rate schedule effective April 15, 2007, replacing prior rates and restructuring fire protection charges from a flat $375 per hydrant annual fee to a tiered private hydrant charge ranging from $207 to $3,700. The operating budget of $35,340,212 passed by two-thirds vote, with major allocations to schools at $13,688,400, debt service at $4,796,529, and public safety at $3,902,552.
The town approved $2 million in supplemental sewer expansion funding and $1 million for drainage improvements to serve Little Harbor, Atlantic Avenue, and Jerusalem Road areas, and adopted zoning amendments creating a Village Business District and modifying multi-family dwelling regulations.
