Town Meeting approves $36.4M fiscal 2009 budget and wind energy zoning

Cohasset approves $36.4 million fiscal 2009 budget and wind energy zoning bylaw. The operating budget, voted unanimously by 293 registered voters at the March 29 town meeting, dedicates $14.3 million to schools, $3.88 million to public safety, and $4.29 million to benefits and insurance, funded by $31.29 million in tax revenue and $4.2 million in enterprise funds and reserves. Moderator Daniel Evans presided.

In parallel action, the meeting unanimously adopted a Wind Energy Conversion Facility bylaw allowing turbines up to 350 feet in height across all zoning districts, subject to Planning Board special permit review. The town also established a $250,000 Capital Stabilization Fund, a Post-Retirement Health Insurance Liability Stabilization Fund of $100,000, and an Affordable Housing Trust to acquire and preserve low- to moderate-income housing.
