Cohasset Conservation Commission refers Tad Lane pond dispute to town counsel

Conservation Commission · Meeting of June 25, 2026

Cohasset Conservation Commission refers filled-pond dispute to town counsel. The board voted 4-0 to approve a stockade fence at 172 South Main Street and a garage rebuild and addition at 76 Beach Street, both by roll call of Tom Bell, Steve Magnell, Kathy Berigan and Chair Chris McIntyre. The panel spent nearly two hours on a show-cause case at 4-2-5 Tad Lane, where attorney Adam Brodsky argued a filled feature on the Menchie family's Salty Bee flower farm was a human-made 1916 landscaping pond, not regulated wetland, citing a 0.09-acre-foot volume calculation from engineer Rick Grady.

Magnell countered that "Adam, for some reason, didn't take into consideration the wetlands definition of agricultural land." The commission also declined to close out a certificate of compliance at 40 Beachwood Street after finding a required rain garden was built as plain lawn instead, with member Tom Bell saying, "They built a lawn." Two other hearings were continued to July 23.
