Cohasset board splits 3-1 on Jerusalem Road addition

Conservation Commission · Meeting of August 20, 2026

Cohasset conservation board presses water officials on a lagoon system sized for 78 percent demand growth. Commissioners Tom Bell and Chris McIntyre questioned Water Commission representatives on plans to demolish 50-year-old dewatering lagoons at the King Street treatment plant and replace them with three tiered lagoons nearly three times their current footprint, with Bell asking bluntly, "we're doing this so we can sell water to Hingham?" Vice Chair Chris Pratt countered that "the lagoons are over 50 years old" and delay is no longer an option; the board continued the hearing to September 10 pending a site visit. Elsewhere, the commission split 3-1, over member Amy McKinnon's dissent, to approve an addition and elevator at 577 Jerusalem Road, and voted 4-0 to approve a reconstructed dock at 66 Black Horse Lane after an abutter's request to lower it for aesthetics was set aside in favor of state guidance.
