Public Safety Facilities Committee · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Cohasset's Public Safety Facilities Committee presented a scaled-back, $25.9 million police station design ahead of the Oct. 26 special town meeting. Committee member Tom Anna said eliminating a planned future fire-station wing cut the town meeting funding request to $20.9 million, about $800,000 less than the version voters rejected in the spring, even though inflation and redesign costs ate up two-thirds of the gross savings. A member reported the Capital Budget Committee recommended the article 4-1.
Separately, committee member Michelle proposed funding a future 44 Elm Street fire station renovation, estimated at $700,000 for an initial phase, through a stabilization fund built from free cash rather than a debt exclusion, saying "we're committed... to figure out a way to fund it outside of an increase to the community's tax dollars." A favorable Oct. 26 vote would send the question to a Dec. 5 special election.
